The necessity for sustainable production processes for both energy and food poses a potential conflict, as both require suitable land. There is a risk that areas designated for renewable energy facilities, particularly photovoltaic installations, may overlap with arable land. Agrivoltaics is the link between these two needs, and more generally between the energy and agricultural sectors. Its development is supported by Directive 2018/2001/EU and national implementing laws, up to the most recent Italian decree on designated areas for installing these facilities.
